Jules Etienne @ Junction Bar

I'm happy to be on stage again with Jules Etienne coming sunday, the 6th of April at Junction Bar in Kreuzberg. The concert starts at 9 p.m. with Martin Tetzlaff solo, and then it's gonna be Jules Etienne singing his folk-pop-songs, acompanied by Yanneck aka Quarion at the pianet and myself at the bass.

For those who don't know Jules Etienne yet, check out this nice article that the music magazine Intro wrote about his Debut-CD "Short Stories".

We will also be performing at Fritz-Radio's Ken Fm on Sundy the 18th of april, so stay tuned and hope to see you an sunday!

New Website

After weeks of trying different templates i have finally found a simple solution to create my new, personal website, JulesValeron.com.
You will find new photo-portfolios, the Coconuts-CD and photo-prints to buy, concert dates and much more.
I will also put up some unreleased demos regularly, most of them results of jam-sessions with Jules Etienne. Starting today with "Connexion" from march 2008.
I will continue with the Blog, which will be more for the news, reviews, previews and so on, the website being more static.

1 year of Coconut-Vibrations

Approximately one year after I started the Coconuts project we are back with the original Lineup as our globetrotter-bassist Vera is back in Berlin.
It feels really good to have her back and our sound is getting very close to where i want it to be.

We will celebrate 1 year of Valeron & the Coconuts on the 24th of April at Beakers in Prenlauer Berg.

Then we're planning to play some acoustic sets in parcs and other outdoors locations and organize our own events. Right now i'm looking for an acoustic bass in order to be independent from amps.
Watch out!

Vernissage at West Berlin Gallery 06.03.2010

The Vernissage for my Foto-Exhibition "Cuba - The Sunny Side of Socialism?" at West Berlin Gallery was wonderful!
I spent an excellent evening with family and friends. Received a lot of positive feedback for the photos and even sold one off the wall to a Hollywood producer.
The Coconuts-gig went fine and I am very happy that our former bass-player Vera has decided to play again with us.

The exhibition is still on another week (until the 21st of march)!

Jules Etienne live at "Ä" in Neukölln on wednesday

As some of you might already know i am playing bass and singing in my friend and fellow Coconut Jules Etienne's band. Together with Yanneck aka Quarion, who's playing the pianet and is my heavenly-voices-choir-partner, we are performing Jules Etienne's lovely folk-songs that melt the coldest heart.

Please have a listen at his songs and if you are in Berlin next wednesday, february 24th, come and see us play our notorious acoustic performance at "Ä", Weserstrasse 40, Neukölln.

cheers

Jules Valeron

Debut-CD "Horizons Nouveaux" out now!

The Debut-CD by Valeron & the Coconuts is finally available on CD !

It's wrapped in a nice digipack with a drawing by french designer JessX, and as you can see the retro-feeling is emphasized by a vinyl-look.

It contains 12 fantastic songs with a lot of hits such as Garlic in the Pocket, ChatLala and Zanzibar, all songs played and recorded by myself and Jules Etienne at KottKott-Studio Berlin. Finest Beach-Flavoured PopMusique spiced up with proper drums, organs, trumpet, violin..

We will be selling them mainly at the concerts (10 EUR), the next shows coming up are on
march 03 - Kaffee Burger
march 06 - West Berlin Gallery CD-Release-Party, Concert and Vernissage

My Photo-Exhibition has been moved by one month and i'm now preparing the first highlight of 2010, i'm very excited about it, hope to see a lot of people around, proper invitation and more infos soon.

If you'd like to purchase the CD and can't wait til march, mail me, i'll gladly send you one (+2.- portage).

Cuba 2009

It's been a week now since i came back from Cuba and i've finally managed to go through my 2000+ photos and make a first selection. And before the memories fade and i start thinking it was a dream i'm gonna make a little travel-summary.
Right away, it's very inspiring, almost all clichés are true and if you have the oppurtunity, go and visit the Pearl of the Caraibes, no-one knows how long it's gonna be stuck in time like this.

It's warm, there are palm- and coconuttrees everywhere.

The sea covers every tone between the blue and the green and it seems someone regulated the temperature to "just perfect".

There is Music everywhere, in every average Café in Havana there's a 5-8 man-band playing, with a looot of percussions, they have incredibly talented musicians, and when they all come together it really grooves.

The old men all wear sombreros.

Che is God, America is evil and "the Revolution" is religion.

Military and Police everywhere.

Food isn't very good besides seafood and fruits, but at least we europeans don't have to worry about how we're getting our stomach filled.
Mojito is the best fucking drink in the world!
The Architecture, especially in Havana, is splendid: Colonial, representative buildings in decay, baby-blue and rosé colours, fancy 50s chic, communistic bombast.

And the cars.. It seems like they have put all oldtimers on this island, they're everywhere and they look just marvelous.

I will try to blog some more, not sure though if i will find the time.
But you will definetely see the best pictures at the West Berlin Gallery from the 5-19 february 2010, i'm actually quite busy preparing the exhibition.
